Inside Hasçelik: An Interview with Kamil Akaltun

We had an enjoyable conversation with Kamil Akaltun, a valued member of Hasçelik’s strong team who has dedicated 16 years to the company. Known for his commitment to his work, his emphasis on team spirit, and his passion for his profession, Akaltun shared insights into his journey at Hasçelik.

“This is my job. I didn’t just start yesterday.”

Kamil Akaltun is 41 years old and originally from Artvin. He has been part of the workforce for 18 years, with 16 of those spent as a member of the Hasçelik family. He currently serves as the main control operator at the Hot Rolling Production Center. In his free time, he enjoys playing the accordion and passionately follows Trabzonspor.

“I love watching smooth production in progress.”

When asked what he loves most about his job, he highlights the joy of seeing a well-established system running seamlessly. “Sometimes we come in feeling stressed but leave feeling very happy,” he says, emphasizing the sense of peace that comes from an orderly workflow.

“My colleagues are like family to me.”

What motivates him the most every day is spending time with his colleagues. Their bond extends beyond the workplace—they even make plans together on weekends. “The thing I love most about Hasçelik is the camaraderie. The phrase ‘we are a family’ truly comes to life here,” he says.

He shares that this bond is not just limited to colleagues but also includes their families, creating beautiful shared memories. “Around 20 of us went on a picnic to Denizli Göleti. Our children connected with one another. My son asked, ‘Dad, when are we going again? I miss my friends.’ That’s why working at Hasçelik is so meaningful to me.”

“You can’t succeed without loving your job.”

When asked what advice he would give to new colleagues, he says, “You must love what you do. If you don’t, you won’t be able to keep up with innovations and will fall behind.” To him, passion is the key to advancing in one’s career and adding value to the job.

“Reaching goals and being appreciated makes me very happy.”

Reflecting on his proudest moments at Hasçelik, he values the recognition and award ceremonies held for employees. “Receiving my 5-, 10-, and 15-year plaques made me incredibly happy. I still keep the factory entry card I was given 16 years ago,” he says.

He also shares a memorable moment when Hasçelik’s Chairman, Adnan Naci Faydasıçok, noticed a distressed employee and asked why he was upset. He sees this as a great example of sensitivity and one of the best reflections of the sincerity within the workplace.

“Stay where you are happy.”

Akaltun states that the most valuable life lesson he learned from his family is the importance of “we” over “me” and stresses the need to evaluate people beyond their positions. He also shares how he strives to build the same strong relationship with his own child that he had with his father, highlighting the importance of family bonds in his life.

Finally, he shares this message for himself and his family: “In three years, I will complete my 19th year at Hasçelik. Stay where you are happy.”

Expressing his pride in being part of this great family and his happiness at working at Hasçelik, Kamil Akaltun concludes the interview with these words: “We continue our work. We are very happy to be in a family environment and look toward the future with hope.”

As Hasçelik, we sincerely thank Kamil Akaltun for this heartfelt conversation.
